Thing #23

Yeah I've finally reached the end.

I totally enjoyed the Maryland 23 Thing project. I like challenges and I sure learned new things. (23 to be exact)

My favorite exercise was thing #10. I never knew there was a program that would make a animated me. I enjoyed playing with the avatar and meez websites. Each of the exercises and discoveries had something that was interesting. This program is able to assist in making some of my job easy by getting up dated reviews on books from a RSS feed, being able to post my opinion of books and materials on LibraryThing or even able to do a quick search with Rollyo.

I think that some of the exercises could have had more helpful tips. I think that having a weekly check-in email help staff stay on track.

I would participate if another discovery program. Again, I enjoyed the project and I think that others would enjoy it if they would just give it a chance.

Thing # 22

Downloading audio books is a good way to save time. Someone can download book and complete assignments at the same time. However, when I went to the website NetLibrary and created an account. I was able to bring up the author's I would like to download, but couldn't figure out how to download it. I beleive it just wasn't available to download.

Thing # 21

I was able to pull some interesting feeds from the podcast sites. The one thing that I found useful is once the subject you are searching is found and you subscribe to it, your blogline is updated as soon as the information is posted. That would save time for someone who is doing research a need the info quickly instead of navigating through websites.

Thing # 20

Can you say too much time. This person clearly needs some extra work to do. The website is easy to navigate through. I enjoyed watching the different types of video's. I could see some training functions recorded and played at a training session. Check out my YouTube find.

Thing # 19

I searched in Games2web and I liked that it had a variety of categories to choose from. When I don't have something specific the do on the web then I like to play a game or 2, so I need a variety of games to pick from. This could be used in a library setting if you are playing a word puzzle or something.

Thing # 18

As I said in my Google Document. This is really neat, but I was trying to post it on my blog and it wasn't working. So, I'm going to try it again.

Thing # 17

This exercise was really easy and fun. It was interesting to see what everyones likes and dislikes are. People are so open to share there interests.

Thing #16

I'm not sure I like that any person ia able to edit a website with wiki, but I do like that people can post there reviews of books.

I liked the setup of the oregon Librarian Insturction Wiki. It had all of the websites that a customer may want to search in a just a click instead of having to typing. I can see libraries using this function. Wiki can have anything you program it to have.

Thing # 15

My thoughts on a few perspectives on Web 2.0 and the future of libraries are:

Away from Icebergs

Dealt with different situations and solutions that could arise from the way libraries have been run.
-Just in case- We would anticipate someone might want a book from a specific collection or topic instead of waiting to see if the topic or collection is ever requested by a customer.

-Reliance on user education- Some databases in the libraries aren't setup so that customers are able to use them without having extinsive training.

-"Come to us"- Making a variety of databases available through the web so that customers won't have to come into the library.

To more powerful ways to cooperate

This article touched on how libraries may be viewed and used in the near future. O'Reilly, not only want staff to contribute there knowledge and opinions; he would like customers to share there opinions and reviews of materials. OCLC also wants better databases. Ones that update with the rapid change of information.

Thing #14

The program itself was interesting. It reminded me of the program Syndic8.com. The only difference is Syndic8.com were links of RSS feeds and Technorati are searches for Blog. It wasnn't suprising to see so many entries added for youtube and myspace.

THING #13

I felt that this program is a way of networking and it allows browsers to discuss common concerns and interests. I liked one of the links that was setup like a slide show. It had a nice background with the document sectioned off. Very creative.

Thing #12

This exercise taught me how to create my own search roll. Check out my rollyo.

THING 11

Library Thing was really easy to use. This excersie allows me to keep a track of the differnent books I've read. Also, staff can also use this for reader's advisory by loging on and getting opinions of the book for other staff members or maybe even customers.

Take a look at the books that are in my LibraryThing catalog. Enjoy.

Thing 10

This was sooooooo much fun. I enjoyed going through the wesite and changing my different outfits and hairstyles without having to actually get undressed and redoing my hair LOL I hope everyone else enjoyed this thing as much as I did. So take a look at my AVATAR.

Yahoo! Avatars U.K. & Ireland

I this exercise was really fun. I tried something else new and entered the Meez World. I again enjoyed changing the look of my animated person. Lots of fun. So take a look at my Meez.

Thing # 9

It was easy using the search tools. I really found it interesting that I was able to type in a city, state or zip code and read the news that happened in that area. Syndic8.com seemed to be a very large forum. I might use this forum if I am unsure of something and I need a bigger pool of information to pull from.

Thing # 8

Okay this exercise was easy to set up, but confusing to read. I liked that you can subscribe to different newfeeds and it will group the info together for easier reading. This can help in personal or work life with school work if person is using journals or doing current event reports. The information is grouped together and the person doesn't have to search several different places to find the information. Libraries can take advantage of RSS by subscribing to newspapers and journals that customers use on a regular basis and when customers comes in requesting a journal or a newspaper the information is at the librarians fingertips vs going to the actual journal or paper.

Thing # 7

Technology is fun. I makes work easier, communicating fun and cheap. For example, I email and send pictures to my family members that live out of state.
