Thing # 15

My thoughts on a few perspectives on Web 2.0 and the future of libraries are:

Away from Icebergs

Dealt with different situations and solutions that could arise from the way libraries have been run.
-Just in case- We would anticipate someone might want a book from a specific collection or topic instead of waiting to see if the topic or collection is ever requested by a customer.

-Reliance on user education- Some databases in the libraries aren't setup so that customers are able to use them without having extinsive training.

-"Come to us"- Making a variety of databases available through the web so that customers won't have to come into the library.

To more powerful ways to cooperate

This article touched on how libraries may be viewed and used in the near future. O'Reilly, not only want staff to contribute there knowledge and opinions; he would like customers to share there opinions and reviews of materials. OCLC also wants better databases. Ones that update with the rapid change of information.
